It was a hot afternoon on the Fitzroy River. Having a
mildly receding hairline (well OK I am nearly bald) I found
my sweat was running straight into my eyes rather than
being absorbed by the hair that I once had. The salty
beads were making it difficult to see. It was one of those
rare moments that I wished I had John Howard's
eyebrows. The walking was hard work as I had just
totally soaked my leather boots trying to progress along
the side of the river. With weighted feet I decided to
scale the bank of the river and perhaps find a short cut
back to the car. I really didn't expect to find much to
photograph along the way because the thick grass and
overhead trees were dimming the already fading sun.
One ray of light shone onto this bug so I decided to try
my best for a "hand held" macro shot. Every time I came
close the little critter would move to the other side of the
bud, I came close to giving up until finally I achieved two
successful shots.
One thing I have found about photography is that if you are driving around looking for something to capture, you will
almost certainly fail. It is not until you get out of the car and walk, and go places you haven't been or wouldn't
normally consider, that you find something that inspires the photographer within.
I think that is what God calls us to do as Christians. It is easy to sit around in our groups and theorize about God's
grace and love for humankind. I am not saying this is a bad thing but the Gospel is not just a theory, it is by nature
very practical. Every one of us needs to stop the car at some time and walk the road on foot, not as onlookers
watching things whizzing by. Walking the road on foot means doing, not just watching. I think the footsteps are there
to follow if we would just take the time to stop and look around for what it is that God wants us to do. I believe it is
rewarding and well worth the sweat; help me Lord to look for your leading.
God Bless
