LIZARD LESSON
What a great photo of a lizard. His pose is magic, on a larger print
you can see the texture of his skin clearly. I had a dilemma in titling
this picture as I was going to call it "Water Monitor" but then doubted
myself. No doubt the first person to view this page will be an expert
on Australian reptiles and prove me wrong.
On our way to Halls Creek a work colleague suggested we stop at
the Dunham River to see if we could spot any crocs. As I neared the
river I spotted the lizard in the distance and adopted my "Great
White Hunter" stance. A few years younger and my mate would have
been embarrassed by a series of poorly executed commando rolls
and army crawls. I only have a 200mm lens so I have to get relatively
close to wildlife for such a shot to be successful. In this particular
case I think I was a source of entertainment for this creature
because when I finally stopped, he turned around, headed straight
for me and stopped to pose for the camera.
I was surprised that my efforts to get close to him were really a waste of time. I am sure he had spotted me well
before I even imagined and obviously didn't see me as a threat.
It reminds me of a verse in the Bible. So often we think that by our own stealth we can get close to God. Rom. 5:8
says "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." The Lizard
Lesson often comforts me when I don't feel "Good enough", or when I feel that I have to do something extra
special to obtain salvation.
God Bless
